Because a percentage fee is a tax on your size, and a capped fee stops being one. 0.85% sounds like nothing. It charges you more for doing more, while the work of routing and landing your swap is the same at 1 SOL and at 100 SOL. Same service. Different bill.
The math
Say you do 60 swaps a month averaging 20 SOL:
- At 0.85%: 0.17 SOL a swap × 60 = 10.2 SOL a month.
- Capped at 0.001 SOL: 0.001 × 60 = 0.06 SOL a month.
Same trades, same fills, 170x difference. Double your size and the percentage bill doubles. The capped one doesn't move. Over a year of real activity that's how you get to around $28,400 without ever seeing an invoice.
How the Aurus cap works
The fee is 0.1% of the swap or 0.001 SOL, whichever is lower. On a swap under a couple hundred dollars, 0.1% is the smaller number, so that's what you pay. Above that it's 0.001 SOL and it stops growing. A $500 swap and a $500,000 swap cost the same. Sometimes less than 0.001 SOL, never more. The full breakdown is in how much Aurus charges per swap.
Why everyone still charges a percentage
Because nobody notices. 0.85% on one tap is invisible. A line that says "app fee: 1 SOL" would get screenshotted. A capped fee only works if people trade often and stick around, which is the bet we're making.
Check it on your own wallet
The fee comparison pulls your real swap history and shows what each wallet would've taken on it. If you want to know what percentages have cost you specifically, that's the fastest way. How the wallets compare has the rates.
